Creed of the First Council of Nicea (A.D. 325)

We believe In one God, the Father Almighty, maker of all things, visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, [the] only begotten of the Father, that is of the substance of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God of true God, begotten not made, of one substance with the Father, which in Greek is called homousion, by whom all things were made, both those in heaven and those on earth Who for us men and for our salvation came down and was incarnate, was made man, suffered, and rose the third day, ascended into heaven, and is coming to judge the living and dead And in the Holy Spirit (Note: here follow the anathemas, which is a statement of what is not to be believed, and traditionally is considered a part of the Nicene Creed) Those, however, who say, "there was a time when He was not," and "before He was born he was not," or that "He was made from nothing," or who say "the Son of God is from another substance or essence or is subject to change or alteration," these the Catholic and Apostolic Church anathematizes.
